Specifically this position will ensure timely, appropriate and well written content about MPHs campaign work appears on our website, that regular communications take place with our supporter base and oversee that our media strategy is implemented. This position will work closely with the MPH coordinator, World Vision and Oxfam media and web staff and the MPH working group leads. While work duties in the three key work areas will vary from week to week we expect that this position will spend relatively equal amounts of time on web, supporter communications and media Make Poverty History (MPH) is a coalition of aid and development agencies, community and faith groups working to eradicate global poverty and is at the centre of the biggest anti-poverty campaign ever seen. It has an active membership and is overseen by a trio of co-convenors and a core working group. The MPH secretariat has 4 staff MPH Coordinator (full-time), Communications Coordinator (3 days), Volunteer Coordinator (3 days) and Administrative Officer (2 days) Key Responsibilities To prepare content and action updates for the MPH web site to ensure it is regularly updated and current, with information about MPH events and activities, MPH issues, news, relevant links, etc. To write regular newsletters to MPH supporters to provide them with information about MPH activities, empower them to take action on poverty issues and engage them in our campaign work To ensure that newsletters are signed off and sent to supporters in a timely fashion To oversee the implementation of the MPH media strategy. To track MPH media work and coverage including in online news sites To work with member organisations media staff and especially OAus and WV media staff to ensure the media strategy is being implemented. Where time allows to assist member organisation media staff in the distribution and follow up of media releases To write and distribute MPH media releases in response to media opportunities that arise and to prepare templates for supporters to use in their media work To ensure that all media releases are appropriately signed off When required to assist with the preparation of MPH resources and materials Other related duties as delegated Knowledge & Experience Excellent written and verbal communication skills Experience and/or training in the communications/journalism field Demonstrated understanding and skills to write for a variety of audiences in a variety of mediums, eg web, e-newsletters, blogs, leaflets, media releases An understanding of development issues and campaigning An understanding of the differing interests of different media outlets Skills & Personal Attributes Able to meet timelines and get the job done Able to work on your own and within a team A commitment to social justice A commitment to gender justice Good people skills Understands the need for consultation and appropriate sign off Able to be flexible and keep on top of multiple developments and issues Experience in working in coalitions, alliances and/or networks an advantage Flexibility in work times and hours an advantage Salary Details The salary is $27 per hour (for 24 hours per week).
